Times Square is usually a place to avoid, but occasionally the “Crossroads of the World” has unexpected gems.
On June 25 and 26, Taste Asia presents a two-day food festival in Times Square. In addition to food booths hosted by NYC-area Asian restaurants, the festival has a packed schedule of events.
The first day features Asian cultural performances and food related programs including noodle and mochi making demos, a chopsticks competition, and a dumpling eating contest, and an introduction to New Tang Dynasty’s Food Paradise TV show hosted by Cici Li.
Things get delicious on the second day with NTD’s International Chinese Culinary Competition that features five regional cuisines. This should be an exciting spectacle for tourists from the US and around the world whose understanding of Chinese food involve egg rolls, MSG, and Mongolian beef eaten at a buffet or an oyster pail.
Winners of the competition will prepare a feast at the VIP Banquet at the James Beard Foundation on June 28.
