Event: Shen Wei Dance Arts at Celebrate Brooklyn!

Shen Wei Dance Arts will perform at the Prospect Park Bandshell as part of Celebrate Brooklyn! tomorrow, July 17 at  8 PM.  The program will feature two of their repertory works Map and Collective Measures.  Excerpts can be seen below

Choreographer Shen Wei (沈伟 / 沈偉) was born in Hunan and settled in New York in 1995.  He  founded Shen Wei Dance Arts in 2000 and is its Artistic Director.  Known for innovative blending of Asian and Western aesthetics and other disparate elements, he has been commissioned by among others, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony, Park Avenue Armory, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center Festival, the Teatro Dell’Opera di Roma, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal.  In 2004, he received the Nijinsky Award for Emerging Choreographer, and in 2007 was a recipient of the MacArthur “Genius Grant”.
