In what may earn him a World’s Best Boss mug, Thomas Chen, founder and CEO of Crystal Window & Door Systems, one of the largest window manufacturers in the nation, is developing a 180-acre property in upstate New York into Crystal Park, a getaway for his colleagues, clients, family, and friends who spend most of their time in the city. Inspired by Chen’s memories of Taiwan’s mountainous countryside, this retreat in Pawling, NY however will offer more than the opportunity to experience New York State’s great outdoors.
Chen also envisions Crystal Park as a place for outdoor art exhibitions and for it to have an art museum and artist studio space. To this end, Crystal Park invites Taiwanese artists residing in the United States to create outdoor sculptures for the park. The call for proposal describes a 40-50 foot high permanent sculpture that showcases the shape of Taiwan and the spirit of Taiwan culture. In addition to a cash award, Crystal Park will provide a construction team to help the artist realize the project. The deadline for submission is 12 PM, November 16, 2015. Further details about the project can be found here. Questions can be addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Furthermore, in a nod to the company whose success makes this possible, Crystal Park will collect and exhibit art related to windows and doors to encourage visitors to consider and appreciate these everyday objects in new and different perspectives.
Construction of trails and facilities are already underway. We’ll keep you posted with further news about the art at Crystal Park.
