Beyond Chinatown is dedicated to exploring and expanding understanding and appreciation of Chinese arts, culture, and society.

We produce original content and share that by others that illustrate the complexity, diversity, and dynamism of China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora.  Articles are posted regularly on Facebook and Twitter, and our Instagram account shares images of works of art, events, and random instances of “Chinese-ness” in everyday life.

We are a comprehensive resource for Chinese-related cultural events and art exhibitions in New York City.  We maintain a calendar for events such as talks, performances, films and another for ongoing exhibitions.  A listing of events for the coming week and current exhibitions is published on our website and shared on social media every Wednesday.

These activities are expressions of self, community, and culture.  We believe that bringing attention to what people — those of Chinese descent and others exploring Chinese culture — are doing and what they’re talking about connects those who share similar interests and is a positive approach towards engaging others in cultural dialogue.
